Student Guardianship in Switzerland
Local, professional, 24/7 care for international students at Swiss boarding schools. When families cannot be present, we are.
What is School Guardianship in Switzerland?
Swiss law and the admissions policies of virtually every Swiss boarding school require international students to have a designated local guardian: a responsible adult based in Switzerland who can be contacted in an emergency, attend parent meetings if parents cannot travel, and act as the point of contact between the school and the family.
A professional guardian goes far beyond this legal minimum. Swiss Academic Network's VIP Guardianship provides full-time welfare monitoring, personal relationships with residential staff, coordination with medical professionals, and concierge-level support for every aspect of student life outside the classroom.
Founded in Geneva in 1994, Swiss Academic Network has decades of established relationships with the admissions, pastoral, and welfare teams at Switzerland's leading boarding schools. Our guardianship is not a service layer — it is a genuine, professional extension of your family's care for your child.
What Our Guardianship Includes
Comprehensive, professional support across every aspect of your child's life at a Swiss boarding school.
Why Professional Guardianship Matters
Many families appoint a family friend or distant relative as a nominal guardian. This satisfies the legal requirement but provides no real support.
When a student is unwell at 2am, or a family emergency requires a rapid change of travel plans, or a school concern requires a calm, experienced adult to attend a meeting — a nominal guardian cannot help.
SAN's guardians are experienced professionals with deep knowledge of the Swiss boarding school system and long-standing relationships with school staff. They are known, trusted, and taken seriously by the schools in which your child is enrolled. This professional standing makes an enormous practical difference in the moments that matter most.
For families whose children are thousands of miles away, the peace of mind that comes from knowing a capable, connected professional is available at any hour is not a luxury — it is an essential part of the boarding school experience.

Private Arrival Transfers and Airport Coordination
We coordinate all airport arrivals and departures for students in our care, ensuring that every transition — whether at the start of term, the end of term, or during school breaks — is managed without disruption or uncertainty.
For families who prefer their child to travel without the experience of busy commercial terminals, we offer private aviation coordination as part of our guardianship service. We work with private aviation operators serving Geneva, Zurich, and other Swiss airports, managing timing, ground transfers, and the supervised handover from aircraft to guardian and onward to school.
This service is available on a standalone basis or as part of our comprehensive VIP Guardianship package.
