Eton College

Eton College is one of the world’s most celebrated and widely recognised educational institutions, founded in 1440 by King Henry VI as a charitable foundation to provide free education to seventy poor scholars. Nearly six centuries later, the college educates approximately 1,325 boys aged 13 to 18 — all full boarders — and occupies a unique position at the intersection of English history, culture, politics, and public life that no other school in the world can claim. The college is situated in the town of Eton, immediately across the Thames from Windsor Castle, approximately 15 minutes from Heathrow International Airport. Its campus of historic buildings — including the renowned Eton College Chapel, the Cloisters, and centuries of architectural accumulation — is one of the most architecturally distinguished of any school in the world, and the setting between the river and the castle gives Eton a sense of place and permanence that is unmistakable. Academic Excellence

Eton’s academic programme is exceptionally broad and demanding. Boys study across a curriculum that encompasses approximately 25 specialist laboratories for science, ten modern and classical languages, mathematics, humanities, the arts, and computing, taught by masters — as Eton’s teachers are traditionally known — who hold degrees from the world’s most distinguished universities and many of whom are leading scholars in their fields. The school is organised into 25 boarding houses, each of approximately 50 boys led by a housemaster who serves as the primary pastoral and academic contact for every boy and his family. The housemaster and tutor system ensures that every boy’s progress — academic, personal, and social — is closely monitored and supported throughout his five years at the college. University placement outcomes are extraordinary: Eton sends more boys to Oxford and Cambridge each year than virtually any other school, and its graduates are well represented at the most selective universities in the United States, including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and MIT.

Rich Campus Life

Eton’s co-curricular provision is amongst the most extensive of any school in the world. The college fields competitive teams across cricket, football, rugby, rowing, fives, the Field Game (an Etonian sport unique to the school), polo, golf, and many other disciplines, with outstanding purpose-built facilities including sports halls, swimming pools, squash courts, and playing fields along the Thames. Music is of exceptional quality, with a professional chapel choir, multiple orchestras and ensembles, and individual tuition in a wide range of instruments.
